School of Applied Sciences

School of Applied Sciences - Getting Inside Programme

Monday 8 May – Friday 12 May 2017

Achieving a good degree and being technically proficient in your field of study is a great starting point for getting into your chosen graduate profession. However, getting the initial break into your preferred field is not always straightforward. Employers will expect you to demonstrate skills you have developed and ideally want hear about relevant work experience you have.

The ‘Getting Inside’ programme has been developed to help you gain a deeper insight into careers within your field of study, and provides an opportunity to meet, network and work with industry professionals. If your application is successful you will shadow professionals over a five-day period: possibly contributing to an industry-based project. This work experience will be useful for future graduate-job, or postgraduate study, applications and can be a valuable tool to help develop your career aspirations.

We are offering 3rd & 4th year Life Science, Psychology, Social Science & Criminology students as well as Masters Students within the Life Science programmes the opportunity to apply to our 'Getting Inside' programme.

Applying for a placement

As part of the recruitment process, you should complete the online application form explaining why you are interested in the ‘Getting Inside’ programme. Successful applicants will be invited to attend an assessment centre comprising a group activity, and individual interview. The programme’s recruitment process provides valuable experience of what to expect when applying for graduate level jobs, and feedback is provided at each stage.
