The Jack Kilby Computing Centre (JKCC) at Merchiston is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and has user support for over 70 hours per week during Trimesters 1 and 2. Please have a look at our layout
In addition to the computers available on campus, Information Services offers the following services and equipment:
The Desktop Service
All fixed student PCs run a centralised desktop image which is regularly revised and updated to maintain performance and functionality.
The main features of the Desktop Service include:
- User Authentication
- Locally installed applications
- Up to two hundred centrally delivered applications including Microsoft Office
- Centrally controlled anti-virus scanning
- A personal network data area (your H drive)
- Shared network data spaces
- Shared network printers
- Free internet access using Internet Explorer
Information Services regularly performs security updates on the network. You should not attempt to patch a University PC yourself.
Rules and Regulations
You will need your matriculation card to access some of the computer suites; you must carry your matriculation card with you at all times.
