Viruses are an Increasing Threat

 
The University is committed to helping protect your data and equipment from viruses by:
  • Providing you with free anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
  • Scanning all incoming emails using an automated email protection system.
  • Ensuring that every machine in the University has anti-virus and anti-spyware software installed.
 
Please note: we will take action to protect the University network if a machine or account is compromised, for example we may need to disable the individual's account. 

 

Free Anti-Virus Software

Anti-Virus ImageThe University provides free anti-virus software to all students, the software also protects against spyware.
 
You can download the free anti-virus and anti-spyware software by logging in to the Software Download Service
 
Before downloading the software you should read the Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Software Download Guide.  
 
 

Automated Email Protection

 
Email ProtectionAll incoming email messages are scanned for viruses and junk mail using an automated email protection system, messages exchanged within the University are not affected.
  • Once the checks have been performed all valid messages will be delivered to your mailbox.  
  • If a message is blocked you’ll be automatically informed by email.

Occasionally legitimate messages may be blocked and if you consider the message to be genuine then contact the IS Service Desk, please note blocked messages are only held for 10 days.
