  Searching the internet

There is an enormous amount of academic information available on the internet. However, it is not always easy to find exactly the information you need for your study or research.
Most of the journals purchased by the library are available online, but note that many of these will not be found by using Google or other search engines - you will need to go through LibrarySearch or a subscription database.

Although you can set up Google Scholar to link with paid-for Edinbugh Napier University journals (see 'Using Google Scholar' below), be aware that sometimes it is unable to detect that Edinburgh Napier has access to a particular journal. If you are unsure, go to LibrarySearch and click on e-Journals.  Type in the name of the journal to see if access is possible using a different route.

Remember when you are searching that anyone can publish information on the web and there is often very little quality control.
Evaluating Information Resources provides useful guidelines.
Subject Guides - have links to the best online resources for your subject.
Using Google Scholar - An introduction to one of the most popular search engines.
Quick Reference - Reference tools, such as dictionaries and encyclopedias online.
