  The Big Read

Edinburgh Napier is excited to be part of The Big Read
The Big Read is a shared reading scheme that we hope will help you settle into university life alongside a community of your peers also reading the same book. All our new students and staff members will receive a copy of this book to encourage everyone to share their thoughts and experiences with each other.
The Big Read was pioneered by Kingston University last year and we’ve now joined forces to bring the initiative to Edinburgh Napier.

The Book

The Humans explores what it is to be human from the perspective of an alien new to Earth and deals with themes around transition and settling into a new community.
We’ve worked closely with Kingston University and Edinburgh-based publishers Canongate Books to have special edition copies produced for the purposes of The Big Read. Our special copies include the Edinburgh Napier Big Read logo on the cover, an introduction letter from our Principal, information about The Big Read, and a series of questions at the back to get you thinking about the book.

Have you finished the book?

The Library have created a LibGuide for The Big Read that explores themes from the book such as humanity, family and relationships and aliens/alienation. The LibGuide includes links to other references and you can also tell us what you think in the discussion board.
If you prefer social media we've got the #EdNapBigRead hashtag so you can post your images, get involved and keep up-to-date with the chat.

How can I get a copy?
You can collect your free special edition copy of The Humans from any of our campus libraries.
