Finding Journals

Library Hub Discover allows you to search the catalogues of UK university, national and specialist libraries through a single interface. This replaces COPAC and SUNCAT.  
Explore the British Library enables users to search the major reference and document supply collections of the British Library.

Worldwide

Library of Congress online catalogue provides access to over 12 million records from the largest library in the world.

WorldCat covers over 10,000 libraries worldwide.

 

Sconul Access - Accessing other libraries in the UK

This is a scheme allowing full time postgraduate, part-time, distance and placement students to borrow material from other university libraries. Reference only access is also available for undergraduate full-time students.

University of Edinburgh has several libraries in the city. These include libraries dedicated to specific subjects such as law, science and technology, medicine and veterinary medicine as well as the Edinburgh College of Art library. Heriot Watt University is based at Riccarton. Subjects include accountancy, building, computing, mathematics and business.

Queen Margaret University is in Musselburgh. Subjects include nursing and health, psychology, business and hospitality.

The Central Library is the main public library and houses both reference and lending materials. There are also some specialist departments such as Fine Art, Music, Scottish and the Edinburgh Collection. There is also a network of branch libraries around the city.

Edinburgh is extremely rich in the number and variety of its libraries. Sometimes it may be quicker and easier to use these libraries than to use our Inter Library Loan Service

National Library of Scotland - as one of the UK's five copyright deposit libraries, the National Library of Scotland (NLS) receives all material published in the UK. Digital collections are available remotely to registered members (you must have an address in Scotland). Apply online or in person directly to the NLS for a Library Card.
 
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh contains specialist botanical and horticultural resources. Contact them in advance to arrange a visit.
