Remembrance Day

On Friday 11 November we acknowledge Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, which marks when World War One ended in 1918.

Remembrance Day is a time of reflection where people unite across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember those who have died or been left with life changing injuries while fighting or carrying out humanitarian and peace keeping missions on behalf of their countries.

The Armed Forces Network invites you to join our Remembrance gatherings across two of our campuses on Friday 11 November.

  • Sighthill Campus - LRC1
  • Craiglockhart Campus - Rivers Suite

You are invited to gather at 10.45am when a member of the Armed Forces Network will say a few words and read a poem before we observe the silence at 11am. After the 2-minute silence, those attending are welcome to stay for refreshments and a poppy cupcake.

The Lindsay Stewart Lecture Theatre at Craiglockhart campus will also be lit up in red from Friday 4 - Sunday 13 November as part of the Light Up Red for the 2022 Scottish Poppy Appeal.

We appreciate that Remembrance Day can be a difficult time for people. Support is available from our Student Wellbeing and Inclusion team and from our Chaplaincy Service. For those with a service background, Rock2Recovery provide support to those with PTSD.

The Armed Forces Network and The Centre for Military Research, Education and Public Engagement is honoured to remember those who have served and continue to serve to protect our democratic freedoms and way of life.
