All you need to know about travelling to Student Accommodation
Our three accommodation sites at Bainfield, Orwell Terrace and Slateford Road are located in the city centre and are well-served by public transport. There are also a number of cycle paths in the area and bike storage facilities on site.Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams
If you are living in Student Accommodation and plan on using public transport to get around, we recommend using Lothian Buses.
Thanks to the Young Persons' Travel Scheme, you can enjoy free bus travel throughout Scotland if:
- You are under 22 years old
- You are living in Scotland for more than 6 months of the year
If you are resident in Edinburgh and your NEC has been issued by the City of Edinburgh Council, you can also use your card to travel on Edinburgh Trams.
To get your free bus travel, you will need to apply for a National Entitlement Card (NEC) or Young Scot National Entitlement Card (Young Scot NEC). Visit freebus.scot to find out more about the scheme and apply.
Lothian Buses Ridacard
If you are not eligible for free bus travel, you can purchase a student travel card starting at £19 a week or £50 a month. This includes travel on Lothian city buses, NightBus services, airport buses, Lothian Country (city zone and cityWEST zone), East Coast Buses (city zones A and B) and Edinburgh Trams.
You can also download the Transport for Edinburgh app which helps plan your journey as well as giving real-time information on services around the city.

- Services 1, 34, 35 and the 300 Skylink stop nearby on Dundee Street (Fountain Park stop).
- Services 22 and 30 stop nearby on the Western Approach Road (Fountain Park stop).

Edinburgh is home to an expanding network of cycle paths, making travelling by bike a great option for getting to campus. We have created a YouTube playlist showing cycle routes to and from Bainfield.
There are many different route options for travelling between our sites. What we've shown in our films are the routes that, as far as possible, use off road cycling, walking and wheeling. Visit www.cyclestreets.net for more options including on-road routes.
There is space for 118 bicycles within the internal and secure storage area at Bainfield. There’s also space for a further 40 bikes outside. There is CCTV throughout the site.
Contact the Accommodation Team at reception for a key and directions to the storage area. We can also provide you with a D-lock in exchange for a security deposit - please ask at reception for more details.

- Services 22 and 30 stop nearby on the Western Approach Road (Fountain Park stop).

Getting to Slateford Road...

There are many different route options for travelling between our sites. What we've shown in our films are the routes that, as far as possible, use off road cycling, walking and wheeling. Visit www.cyclestreets.net for more options including on-road routes.
There is space for 100 bicycles on upright racks within the covered storage area at Slateford Road. There’s also space for 20 on uncovered Sheffield stands next to reception. There is CCTV throughout the site.
Entry to the communal area, where the bikes racks are positioned, is controlled by fob access. Contact the Accommodation Team at reception for a key and directions to the storage area. Car parking at Student Accommodation
There are no parking facilities at any of our sites except for students who have a blue badge.
If you park your vehicle on the streets near our accommodation sites, please be aware of pay and display regulations and be considerate to our neighbours.
- Make sure you follow all Highway Code and local parking regulations
- Do not park in spaces designated for local residents or shop customers
- Do not park across driveways or on pavements, or otherwise obstruct access for residents and pedestrians
