Supporting your transition to University

If you're joining us from Edinburgh Napier University International College (ENUIC), we're here to support you with the transition to university life, from your studies to student services and beyond.

The guidance on this page has been co‑created with students who studied at ENUIC themselves and are now at the University. They've shared their experiences to help you understand what to expect.

At university, the responsibility for your learning shifts significantly to you, but you're not alone! Make sure to read the guidance on this page to find all the information you need to know as you take your next step.

Assessments

  • Submit all coursework, assignments, and group projects on time.
  • If you miss a submission, or fail, you typically only get one resit opportunity (usually in the summer).
  • Resit marks are capped at 40% (this is the maximum mark you can get).
  • Be honest in your work and don’t misuse artificial intelligence tools.
  • Failing to submit one piece of assessment makes it easier to fall behind. Multiple failures can lead to failing the next year.
  • You will be notified by email or Moodle if you have resits. Always assume you must be available until results are confirmed.

Action planning

  • Speak to your module leader early if you are struggling.
  • Extensions may be possible in exceptional cases, but must be requested before the deadline.
  • Know the policies that apply to assessments: Fit to Sit and extenuating circumstances.

Communication

  • The main channels used at Edinburgh Napier are University email and Moodle.
  • Check your email and Moodle daily for important information about deadlines, room changes and assignments.
  • The University does not use social media platforms for official communication about your programme and modules.

Responsibilities and behaviour

  • Attendance is monitored through check-in codes and is vital for visa status. Missing classes will impact your grades and may mean you have to leave the University.
  • Arrive on time, minimise disruptions and respect your peers and lecturers. You are now part of a professional learning community.
  • Get to know the Student Community Code.
