Remembrance Day gatherings
Join us for our annual Remembrance Day lecture to mark the historical significance of Craiglockhart as a War Hospital during the First World War, famously the meeting place of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.
'Let's kill the memory of this place': Scottish Poetry of the First World War will take place from 5.30-8pm on Monday 9 November, and will also be streamed via Microsoft Teams. There will be a wine reception from 5.30pm and the lecture will start around 6pm.

Merchiston Remembrance gathering
Students are warmly invited to a Remembrance gathering on Wednesday 11 November in Room C96 in Merchiston Tower from 10.45-11am, after which we'll observe a two-minute silence. Refreshments will be provided and there will be time after to participate by saying a few words or reading poetry.
What is Remembrance Day?
On 11 November, people across the United Kingdom acknowledge Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day as it is also known. This day marks the day that World War One (WWI) ended in 1918. To remember those who died during WWI, and in any conflict since, there is a two-minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month each year. It is also a time to take a moment to think of families who live with the loss of their loved one every day and remember service personnel who have been wounded, physically and mentally, during any service-related activities.
It's a day of reflection where we unite across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to take a few minutes to remember those who have died or been left with life-changing injuries while fighting or carrying out humanitarian and peace keeping missions on behalf of their countries. Two minutes doesn’t often feel long enough but is a good place to start.
We appreciate that Remembrance Day can be a difficult time for people and we wish to highlight that support is available from our Student Wellbeing team and our Chaplaincy service. For those with a service background, Rock2Recovery provides support to those with PTSD.
