End of strike action

We are pleased to confirm an agreement between the University and the EIS trade union has been made, bringing an end to the recent strike action.

The dispute began last September, when the EIS called for a commitment from the University to avoid compulsory redundancies for at least two years and to protect current staffing levels.

After discussions, an agreement was reached on 1 June. The agreement includes the following:

"The University and the EIS note that the University Review has been concluded, with no compulsory redundancies arising from the process.

"The University and the EIS have formally agreed that the School merger process will not result in any reduction in headcount, and that, consequently, no compulsory redundancies will arise from this process."

With these assurances in place, the EIS has formally ended the dispute.

The University and the EIS will now continue working together in the best interests of staff and students. We look forward to seeing you on campus and welcoming you back for the 2026/27 academic year.
