Warnings around essay mills and content writers

As you approach your assessments and coursework, please remember the importance of academic integrity to avoid falling victim to plagiarism and scams such as essay mills. There can be serious consequences for you personally and academically.

Essay mills, also known as content writers or ghost writers, use sophisticated tactics to target students and can appear to be endorsed by the University, which they are not. In many cases, these services have blackmailed students, resulting in serious academic, professional, and personal consequences.

If you receive an email from an unknown sender offering these kinds of services, report it as spam using the 'report message' button and then delete it. Do not click any links, as they may pose a security risk.

Academic consequences

Using essay mills or similar services, even if you believe they are only improving your own work, is against the University's academic regulations. If there are concerns that you have submitted work that is not your own, you may be found guilty of academic misconduct. In serious cases, this can result in permanent exclusion from the University and your credits being removed.

If academic misconduct is identified after you graduate, your award may be rescinded in line with our graduate integrity regulations.
