Childcare Funds
Eligible students who incur costs for registered childcare can apply for help with these costs from several sources, depending on their circumstances and course of study. Please consider your eligibility below.
If you need to make an application to the Childcare Fund please ensure that you have all of the required documents and fully complete the application form, without this your application will be rejected.
Applications
This fund is open for applications.
Full Time Undergraduate Students
You are eligible to apply if:
- you are a full-time UK registered student, or are from another country and satisfy the SAAS residence conditions to be treated in the same way as a UK student for student funding (i.e. student loan/bursary for living costs) purposes (part-time students should apply to the University Discretionary Fund) and;
- you are attending the University as part of a degree programme and have been awarded a student loan/bursary from a UK awarding body (for postgraduate students who are not eligible for a student loan please see University Discretionary Fund) and;
- your eligible for your fees to be paid by SAAS
- you have taken out or applied for the maximum student loan to which you are entitled (for further details see Student Loans) and;
- you have explored all other funding options open to you
You are not eligible to apply if:
- you are a Scottish nursing student in receipt of a non means-tested NHS bursary
- you are a Scottish student not eligible for your fees to be paid by SAAS
- you are a nursing student from the rest of the UK and are eligible to receive a student loan from the awarding body relevant to your UK country of ordinary residence
- you are a student from an EU country only eligible for Tuition Fee assistance from SAAS
- you are an international student
- you have not taken out or applied for the maximum student loan available to you

How to Apply
To apply for the Childcare Fund please log in to Find a Fund and submit the living cost questions. Once submitted click on Other Recommended Opportunities and this will display the Childcare Fund. You must click “Apply” and fully complete and submit the supplemental childcare questions.
Before you make your application, please refer to our Funding Application Top Tips page and check out our Funding Application Support Document. This will give you useful information on how to complete your application and what supporting documents you may need.
Summer childcare support
Some support may be available during the summer e.g. for those needing to re-sit exams or attend academically required placements. Please contact the Student Funding Team for more information.
Full Time Postgraduate Students
If you are a postgraduate student in receipt of postgraduate funding for living costs from a UK awarding body, you should apply for help for the cost of registered childcare from the University Childcare Fund.
How to Apply
To apply for the Childcare Fund please log in to Find a Fund and submit the living cost questions. Once submitted click on Other Recommended Opportunities and this will display the Childcare Fund. You must click “Apply” and fully complete and submit the supplemental childcare questions.

If your postgraduate course of study is not funded by a UK funding body you may be able to receive help with the cost of childcare from the Discretionary Fund.
Nursing & Midwifery Students
Childcare Funds
A childcare allowance for parents is available from SAAS to Scottish student parents who are eligible for the NHS bursary. Student parents from the rest of the UK should refer to the awarding body relevant to their country of ordinary residence.
Part-time Students
If you are studying part-time you may be able to receive help with the cost of childcare from the Discretionary Fund.
