Guidance for sitting your exams

The Trimester 2 exam period will run from 29 April - 10 May, and we’ve put together some helpful information to guide you through.

Most of the exams will take place online, with the remaining exams being held at Sighthill campus. Please access the Exam Timetable to check the format your exam will take and note that exams taking place on campus will start at 9.30am and 1.30pm, while online exams start at 11am.

Exam Timetable

You can view your Exam Timetable on My Napier. Occasionally, assessments may need to be rescheduled, so please check regularly for any changes to your exams. Everything you need to know about sitting exams and how online exams work can be accessed on the Exam Guidance page.

Online Exams  - check you have access to the exam server

If you are sitting exams online, it is important that you log in and check that you can access the Exam Server for the correct exams. You will have access to the server from Monday 22 April onwards, but please note that this access is only to show the modules that you have an exam paper for.

Access to the contents of the exam paper will be restricted, and you will only be able to access the full exam paper at the times and dates noted on the Exam Timetable. Exam papers will only remain available until the published end/submission time for the exam.

View the online video guide for student exams.

When you sit your exam, remember that the time allocated also includes time at the end for submitting your paper. Please make sure that you do not leave anything in draft format and that you submit your completed work within the allocated time.

You must use acceptable file formats such as Microsoft Word (doc, docx), PDF, OpenOffice (odt). Apple Pages are not acceptable—you should export these as a PDF before uploading to the Exam Server. One Drive is also not acceptable as this format cannot be opened and will not be accepted.

If you have any queries, please first check the Exam webpages. If you cannot see an exam paper listed on the site for an exam that you are expecting to sit or have any difficulties in accessing the Exams Server, please email exams@napier.ac.uk

Issues affecting your exams and extenuating circumstances

If you have an issue that might impact your assessments, you need to tell us on time. If you don’t, this will likely prevent you from being successful in using the arrangements in place to support your studies, such as extensions, deferrals or extenuating circumstances.

Please do not wait until you have your assessment results to tell us about something that has impacted you, as it will be too late by then.

You should read and familiarise yourself with the important information found on our Extenuating Circumstances page. These policies, procedures and support are available for you should ill health or personal issues mean you are unable to submit assessments on time or sit exams.
