Message from the Principal - events in Morocco and Libya

Dear students,

Like me, you were probably shocked by the dreadful scenes from Morocco which we woke up to on Saturday morning. Seeing pictures of the destruction in Marrakesh and in the nearby Atlas Mountains, while hearing the vivid stories of those caught up in the earthquake, was deeply moving. To then see the terrible floods in Libya this week was heartbreaking. My thoughts are with everyone who has been touched by these tragedies, particularly those within our Edinburgh Napier community – our students, our staff, and of course those with family and loved ones in the affected areas.

We have spent this week contacting all students and staff from Morocco and Libya to check on their welfare and remind them of the relevant services we have available. However, there may be others in our community who have been affected that we are unaware of. Please look out for each other and let us know if you or anyone else is struggling. Remember, as a student you can access our mental health and wellbeing services and the International & EU Crisis Fund that might be able to offer financial support.

For those who wish to help directly, you can find out more about donating to the relief funds through the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The Edinburgh Napier community always responds positively to such terrible events, which is a source of great personal pride, and I know we will do all we can to help at this time.

Stay safe, stay connected.

Regards,

Andrea Nolan
