Applications must be for activity that is outside of the UK. Please do not apply if your intended activity is within the UK. Activities must be a minimum of 4 weeks (28 calendar days) up to a maximum of 8 weeks.

 

Requirements and eligibility

  • WP and non-WP Students at all levels (UG/PGT/PGR) are welcome to apply for Turing Summer Scholars.
  • Widening participation students must come under either the Turing Widening Participation criteria or alternatively, fit within ENU’s own WP criteria which you can read more about hereThese criteria will be checked against Edinburgh Napier University official records and only apply to students where they have an official ENU record.
  • Turing Summer Scholar activity must have a clear purpose/structure and fall under one of the following broad categories: Internships, Study, Summer School, Dissertation research, PG research or such like. Please make the activity you intend to undertake and its clear in your application.
  • Proof of acceptance and validity at the receiving institution/employer/Supervisor must be submitted with confirmation of start and end dates included.
  • The Turing Summer Scholar scheme can provide funding for activities of a minimum of 4 weeks (28 calendar days) up to a maximum of 8 weeks.
  • The activity must commence no earlier than the end of TR2 2024 and must be completed by 31 August 2024 at the latest.
  • Open to current students and those who are due to graduate at the end of the 2023/24 academic year. Students must still be registered at Edinburgh Napier at the point of application.Activities must be delivered physically – virtual/online activities do not qualify.
  • Activities undertaken in student’s main country of residence do not qualify.As part of the Turing Bid, ENU were required to request funding for specific destinations and durations. Please submit your application as normal and if your destination or duration is out with the specified funding allocation we currently have, a change request to Turing may be possible to cover activities of different durations and to different destinations. Please note however, that changes are not guaranteed and therefore any approval of applications for Turing Summer Scholar funding will be 'in principle' until the Turing Scheme approves the change request.

Next steps:

Before applying, please spend time looking into possible activities you can do using the destinations outlined in the presentation and the groups 1-3 destinations on the Turing website as a guide.

All activities are subject to a satisfactory travel risk assessment.

Possible activities might include:

  • Participating in a Summer School at a European or overseas university
  • Undertaking an internship that will contribute to future employability prospects
  • Structured research visit for dissertations and theses
  • Taking an in-country language course
  • Applications must evidence that the intended activity has a clear alignment to, and enhancement of academic and/or graduate employability objectives

Applications for summer 2024 are now closedThere may be a Clearing application round in spring 2024 should spaces still be available but please note this is not guaranteed at this stage. We will update this page with further information ahead of any potential clearing round in spring 2024, so please check here regularly for updates.  

The Global Mobility Team is currently reviewing applications so we will contact you in due course with the outcome of our decision and what the next steps are. You will receive regular email communications from the Global Mobility Team once you have applied, so it is important to keep checking your student email account. Please note that we can only respond to emails sent from your official student account!

 

Turing Grant rates:

It is important to note that the Turing Summer Scholars funding is only a contribution to overall costs. Applicants need to ensure they have considered the full cost of their activity carefully and must be able to self-fund any costs above and beyond the Turing Grant rates. The current award levels of the Turing Summer Scholars scheme are as follows:

For placements with a total duration of four to eight weeks:

  • £545 per month (equal to £136.25 per week to Group 1 destinations)
  • £480 per month (equal to £120 per week to Group 2 and 3 destinations)

  • 100 to 499km: £165

  • 8,000 to 12,000km: £905 
  • 12,000km+: £1,360
