Changes to laptop loan procedures
Edinburgh Napier University provides a large number of laptops for students to borrow, and these devices are in high demand throughout the year.
To ensure this service works smoothly for all students, we are introducing changes to the way overdue laptops are managed. These updates are designed to keep the system fair and to help more students benefit from the loan scheme.
What's changing?
If a laptop is kept beyond its return date, it will now trigger an automatic process:
- Once it is overdue by three days, the device will display a blocked message and will be automatically disabled. This helps us make laptops available again for others who need them.
This change applies to LapSafe laptops, digital access scheme laptops and postgraduate research laptops. You will receive a weekly automated email from the library reminding you of the due date for your laptop. We'll also notify you if renewal isn’t possible or if you leave University before the return date.
Why are we doing this?
A small number of laptops have been kept for extended periods, which limits availability for other students. By introducing this measure, we aim to keep the service reliable and fair for everyone.
