Merchiston lift works

Essential works are currently underway to replace lifts at Merchiston campus. While works are ongoing, lift access in the teaching block is limited, which may have an impact on students with mobility issues.

Lift replacement schedule:

  • L1 (Engineering block): currently being replaced, due to be back in operation from week commencing Monday 22 September.
  • L5 (teaching block, right of main entrance): currently being replaced, due to be back in operation from week commencing Monday 6 October.
  • L2 (teaching block, right of main entrance): work on this lift will commence once L5 is in use with the replacement due to complete by Friday 22 December.

Please note that the lift currently out of use in the teaching block (L5) is the only lift in that block suitable for wheelchair and electric wheelchair users. The other teaching block lift (L2) cannot accommodate wheelchairs due to its size.

While L5 remains out of service, wheelchair users will need to use the lift in the Engineering block (L1) to reach C or D floor and then access the teaching block via the link corridor. Unfortunately, lift L1 will not be available until Monday 22 September.

Accessibility support

If you have an accessibility requirement already identified to the University, we have been proactive and teaching activities have been timetabled into accessible teaching spaces where possible.

If you have not previously declared an accessibility requirement but are concerned about accessing your teaching activities, please contact your school timetabling administrator:

If you require a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) to be put in place to ensure safe exit in an emergency, please contact the Disability Inclusion team at disabilityinclusion@napier.ac.uk with ‘PEEP Request’ in the subject of your email to ensure it is prioritised.
