Mahara is being retired

Mahara is being retired

Mahara will be retired on Monday 30 June 2025.  If you have any content stored on Mahara, please ensure that you download it and save it elsewhere before 30 June. After this date, access to Mahara will no longer be available, and any remaining data will be lost.

Why is Mahara being retired?

Mahara is no longer supported and as such will not function after the upcoming Moodle upgrade to Moodle 4.5.

What do I need to do to prepare?

We recommend downloading and saving your content to a secure location such as your personal OneDrive account or another University-approved storage solution – find out more about University data storage on the Saving your files My Napier page.

Guidance for downloading and storing your content can be found in the Download files from Mahara guide

What can we use instead of Mahara?

You can use Padlet which is a collaborative online tool that lets you create digital boards where you can share content using virtual post-it notes. These notes can include text, images, links, videos, and more.

Padlet also offers a variety of templates to get you started — including a Personal Portfolio option available in the Gallery

Further information is available for students on the Padlet My Napier page.

Where can I get further help?

If you have any questions about the Mahara retiral please contact the IS Service Desk in the first instance.
