Loan process overview
If you would like to apply for US Federal Loans then you must first establish your eligibility by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must do this online at fafsa.ed.gov. When completing your FAFSA, you must list Edinburgh Napier University as your school. Our school code is G34184.
Federal and State deadlines for completing the FAFSA can be found on their website.
Once you have submitted your FAFSA, a Student Aid Report (SAR) / Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) is produced. We need this document to determine your loan eligibility.
Please ensure you email us at usloans@napier.ac.uk to confirm you have submitted your FAFSA.
Visit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website Email us to confirm you have submitted your FAFSANext steps
Once we have received confirmation that you have completed your FAFSA, we will provide you with a Funding Notification Offer from May onwards.
This will give you an indication of your expected costs for the duration of your studies.
You can then give us an indication of what you intend to borrow and we will review your ISIR. You will also need to confirm any scholarships received and complete a number of loan documents required for each loan.

How much do I need to borrow?
It’s important to remember that you have to pay back your loans so only borrow what you need.
You do not have to borrow the full cost of attendance.
When can I apply?
We would encourage students to apply at the earliest opportunity to ensure everything is in place for you to commence the Tier 4 visa process, if required. However, please note we will only start the process of issuing a Cost of Attendance in May if you are due to start your course in September.
Loans may only be originated when you have accepted an unconditional offer of a place on a programme at Edinburgh Napier University (new student) or that you have satisfied the regulations within the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress form (continuing student).
