Preparing for severe weather on campusWe understand that severe weather conditions may sometimes prevent you from being able to get to campus. The safety of our students is our top priority and we will do all we can to continue to support you on occasions that campuses are closed.
What to do if campuses are closed
Please take the time to read the following guidance which has been created to help you prepare for situations where you may need to work or study from home.
If we have an urgent message to communicate, we will update you by email, as well as via the University's website, myNapier and social media channels. You may receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org and an app notification as well.
How do I prepare to work off campus?
It's important to make sure you can access the University's IT services from home before the bad weather strikes.
To connect to the University network all you need is a PC or a laptop with an internet connection. Visit our IT Support pages, which will show you how to:
- Access the Virtual Desktop Service
- Access your emails
- Access your H drive
Depending on your needs, this may require you to make some small changes on your computer. Make sure you do this before you are stuck at home due to the bad weather.
Please remember that you can access myNapier from home if you cannot reach the campus.
To enable you to work from home, we provide you with the opportunity to borrow laptops or purchase discounted software, as well as access to free anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Please visit our IT Support pages for more information.
What happens if my classes are cancelled?
In the event of bad weather and lectures being cancelled, Moodle will be used to support revision and assessment. In particular, academic staff will seek to ensure that all lecture notes, learning and revision materials are available on Moodle.
If you are unable to attend an exam or assessment due to verifiable reasons, our normal policies and procedures apply. For more information visit Appeals and Extenuating Circumstances.
